'Wit and Mirth' is a collection of songs and ballads, which was originally written between 1698 and 1720. The six volumes contain over one thousand poems and songs.

This poetical work was very popular when it was first published.

Some of the songs and poems that appear in these volumes are 'The Star of County Down', 'The Fair Maid of Islington', 'Blow the Candle Out', 'Within a Mile of Edinburgh Town', and more.

Written by Thomas d'Urfey, and English writer. He was a composer of plays, songs, jokes, and poetry. He was a noted contributor in the development and evolution of the Ballad opera.
