'Wit and Mirth' is a collection of songs and ballads, which was originally written between 1698 and 1720. The six volumes contain over one thousand poems and songs.
This poetical work was very popular when it was first published.
Some of the songs and poems that appear in these volumes are 'The Star of County Down', 'The Fair Maid of Islington', 'Blow the Candle Out', 'Within a Mile of Edinburgh Town', and more.

Written by Thomas d'Urfey, and English writer. He was a composer of plays, songs, jokes, and poetry. He was a noted contributor in the development and evolution of the Ballad opera.

Condition
In a half straight grain morocco binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. Very light rubbing to the spines and extremities. Only a few small marks to the boards, larger mark to the front board of Volume III. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with some scattered spots, title pages are age-toned.
