Illustrated, Very Scarce
A very scarce work in the publisher's original decorative cloth binding with gilt detailing to the front board and spine. All edges gilt. Lacking the front free end paper.
Previous owner's ink inscription to the half title page.
A charming collection of six short religious tracts, told in the form of short stories, and illustrated with seven delightful engraved vignettes. This work was published by the Monthly Tract Society, also known as the English Monthly Tract Society, founded in 1837. The secretary was John Stabb. With money raised by subscription, free religious tracts were sent each month to families felt to be in need of them.
Undated. 1875 is an approximate date. According to the Royal Blue Book of that year, the Society was based at 5 Red Lion Square in 1873.
Condition
In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Externally, cloth is somewhat worn to the joints and extremities, but remains generally bright. Spine is faded. Front hinge is slightly strained to page 1, but is held firmly. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Lacking the front free end paper.
