Illustrated, Leather Binding

A complete set of the novels of English writer and one of the leading novelists of the Victorian era, George Eliot. Containing her eight published works of fiction bound in seven volumes.

With most of her novels set in provincial England, Eliot's works are known for their realism, psychological insight, sense of place and detailed depiction of the countryside.

Consisting of all seven of her novels: 'Adam Bede', 'The Mill on the Floss', 'Silas Marner', 'Felix Holt', 'Romola', 'Daniel Deronda' and 'Middlemarch', and her first published work of fiction, 'Scenes of a Clerical Life', a collection of three short stories.

With one novel per volume with the exception of 'Silas Marner' and 'Scenes of a Clerical Life', which are bound together.

A mixed edition set, with four volumes in Blackwood's stereotyped edition, and three in Blackwood's new edition. Only two volumes are dated: Volume VII, 'Middlemarch', and volume VIII, 'Daniel Deronda', are dated 1887 to the title pages.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page and five further plates to volume I; a frontispiece, vignette title page and five further plates to volume II; two frontispieces, two vignette title pages and five further plates to volumes III-IV; a frontispiece, vignette title page and five further plates to volume V; a vignette title page to volume VI; an engraved title page to volume VII, and an engraved title page to volume VIII. Collated, complete.

Condition

In half calf bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, excellent, with a touch of fading to board perimeters. Internally, firmly bound, with the exception of volume VII which has three gatherings working loose towards the start of the work. Pages bright, with spotting to page perimeters of each volume.
