    Description

    Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

    A very scarce work of tis anonymous autobiography. Undated, dated from the dedication page c1872. 

    Very unique, this autobiographical work details a lawsuit over a large estate situated in Lancashire, at the time producing about £40,000 a year.

    The story begins with the author's grandfather claim of the estate over the last legal heir's only child [a daughter], having the estate been devised to heirs male. She refused to surrender, which then started a lawsuit that continued for the next two generation as the author takes over. 

    A very entertaining work, giving an insight on lawsuits in the late nineteenth century, with much drama, and beautifully written.

    Condition

    In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally smart with minor shelf wear only and a slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities, as well as a minor loss to the cloth to the head of the spine and the top right extremity of the front board. Frederick York Powell's neat inscription in ink to the front pastedown, dated 1894. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean.
