Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce

All six divisions of this scarce work, which is usually found bound in two volumes. With the letterpress title pages for the two volume edition of this work bound in to the rear of volume VI, alongside a list of plates.

Collated, illustrated with an engraved general title page to the start of the division I, and illustrated with fifteen engraved plates to volume I, fifteen plates to volume II, fourteen plates to volume III, fifteen to volume IV, fifteen to volume V, and fourteen to volume VI. 

With eighty-eight out of the ninety plates called for present. Divisions I, II, IV and V are collated and complete, whereas volume III and VI each lack one plate.

Including engravings by prominent artists including Landseer, Stanfield, Herbert, Mulready and Tennant, each accompanied by a descriptive passage.

Edited by Henry Murray F.S.A., who produced a number of Victorian era works on artists.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with gilt detailing. Bumping to spine heads and tails, with boards bright. Centre of front hinge of volumes I, II and VI strained but firmly held. Majority of leaves of volumes I and II detached due to gutter percha binding, but with only a small number of leaves to volume III, and IV detached, and the remaining largely firmly held. Only one leaf detached to volume V. Pages bright, but with spotting throughout each volume, though most concentrated to volumes I-III.
