A nineteenth-century musical arrangement of George Frederic Handel's 'Judas Maccabaeus', an oratorio in three acts originally composed in 1746. It was intended as a compliment to Prince William Augustus upon his victorious return from the Battle of Culloden.
Arranged by Vincent Novello in vocal score, with a separate accompaniment for the organ or pianoforte.
The scarce Centenary Edition of this work.
Bound in half calf by James McKelvie, with their binder's stamp to the rear pastedown.
Condition
Bound in half calf with cloth boards by James McKelvie, with their binder's stamp to the rear pastedown. Externally, sound, with some rubbing to the spine and extremities, particularly to the head of the front board. Some shelf wear to the boards. A previous bookseller's sticker to the front pastedown, and a few pencil notations to the front pastedown and front free-endpaper. Internally, front hinge is strained. A few spots and handling marks to the pages, which are otherwise bright and clean.
