Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding

Complete, two volumes bound in one. Illustrated throughout with seven plates across both volumes. No date to text, dated from Copac. Translated and adapted from the original German of Johann David Wyss into French by Pierre Blanchard. 'The Swiss Family Robinson' follows the tale of a Swiss family shipwrecked in the East Indies en route to Port Jackson, Australia. Inspiration from the novel came from Daniel Defoe's 'Robinson Crusoe'.

Condition

In a full calf binding with blind stamping to the boards and gilt stamping to spine. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the spine, joint and extremities, particularly to the head and tail. Some minor bumping to the extremities also. Rear hinge has failed with the backstrip detached to the rear also. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound though strained in places. Pages are age toned, particularly to edges due to paper used. Scattered spotting throughout.
