A copy of 'The Pioneers' by James Fenimore Cooper, his first novel written in the 'Leatherstocking Tales'. Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) was an American novelist, his most acclaimed work being 'The Last of the Mohicans', the second novel in this series. Chronologically, 'The Pioneers' is the fourth novel in the series, which features the warrior protagonist Natty Bumppo. Fenimore Cooper is widely celebrated for writing historical novels, often depicting life in the USA between the 17th and 19th centuries and comparing the experiences of Native American people and frontiersmen.
In a half calf binding with marbled boards and a lovely gilded spine.
This edition is undated, dated from Jisc, British Library. It is the first English edition in a single volume.
Condition
In a half calf binding. Externally generally smart, some shelfwear to the boards. Internally firmly bound, pages generally bright and clean, some spotting heavier to the endpapers.
