The second edition of this uncommon work.

A brilliant manual on English housekeeping by Anne Cobbett, advising the reader in great detail on all aspects of traditional cookery and the running of a nineteenth century household.

As an experienced housekeeper, Cobbett offers her advice and instructions on the conduct of household affairs, laying out small ornament gardens, directions for cultivating herbs, and assisting poor neighbours, as well as various recipes.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, and a few in-text engravings.

Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the Wellcome Library.

One leaf of adverts to the front, twelve pages of adverts to the rear.

Condition

In the original quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, rear board detached but present. Front board may detach with further handling, backstrip detached from the spine and is attached to the front board. Discolouration and marks to the boards and spine, with a small tide mark to the front board. Small crack to the front joint. Spine label is rubbed and discoloured. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some scattered spots. Title page is torn and detaching to the head. Tide mark to the margin of the frontispiece. Aged tape to the gutter between the frontispiece and title page, and to the pages, and to the front hinge, to the front paste down and facing advert.
