First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

The first edition of this impressively illustrated guide to mid nineteenth century Europe, illustrated throughout with steel-engraved plates from prominent English painter Clarkson Frederick Stanfield, best known for his large landscape paintings.

Illustrated with sixty-two plates, including an engraved title page and frontispiece. Collated, complete.

Dated c. 1836 via WorldCat.

Aiming to acquaint the English reader with the scenery of the European continent, this wonderful work accompanies plates of such scenes as Brussels Cathedral, Antwerp, Nassau and the field of Waterloo with descriptive and informative passages.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tai. Small split to cloth to head of rear joint. Front hinge starting, with board holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to plates, with pages generally clean and bright.
