A lovely early edition of this collection of plays with notes from Elizabeth Inchbald in half morocco bindings and paper covered boards. 

Twenty five volumes complete bound in eight. Undated, dated from Jisc. 

Densely illustrated with a monochrome plate frontispiece to each play. Collated, complete. 

Volume I includes A New Way to Pay Old Debts by Philip Massinger, The Count of Narbonne by Robert Jephson, The Stranger by Benjamin Thompson, De Monfort by Joanna Baillie, and The Point of Honour by Charles Kemble.

Volume II includes Wild Oats, The Castle of Andalusia, and Fontainbleau by John O'Keeffe, with The Road to Ruin and The Deserted Daughter by Thomas Holcroft.

Volume III includes The Heiress by General Burgoyne, Know Your Own Mind by Arthur Murphy, Honey Moon by John Tobin, Belle's Stratagem and A Bold Stroke for a Husband by Mrs Cowley.

Volume IV includes The Wheel of Fortune, First Love, and The Jew by Richard Cumberland, and The Duenna and The Rivals by Richard Brinsley Sheridan.

Condition

In half morocco bindings and paper covered boards. Externally, smart. There is some rubbing to the heads and tails of the spines and to the extremities. There are some light marks to the boards. Prior owner's book plates to the first pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with some age toning and the odd spot.
