A collection of eighty-nine engraved plates, gathered from William Henry Montague's 'History of England', originally published circa 1771.
Bound in full vellum.
A unique work containing Samuel Wale's illustrated plates of various figures and events throughout history, including numerous monarchs, such as Mary Queen of Scots, Richard I, Henry VIII and many others. Wale's striking monochrome scenes show important historical events, such as the death of Lady Jane Grey, the 1588 defeat of the Spanish Armada, and many more.

In the original publication of Montague's History of England, the two-volume set included 106 engraved plates and 11 maps, alongside over one thousand pages of text.
Condition
Bound in full vellum. Externally, sound, with discolouration and marks to vellum, as is typical with the material. Bumping to the extremities and slight loss to the tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
