What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Signed
Rev. John Watson, or as he was more widely known, Ian Maclaren (his pen name) was a Scottish author and theologian. This, his first collection of stories of rural Scottish life proved to be wildly successful upon its initial publication in 1894, selling more than 700,000 copies and leading 'Maclaren' to become a household name. Illustrated throughout with several photographic plates by the notable English artist, illustrator, etcher and engraver, William Hole. Whilst Hole is best known for his industrial, historical and biblical scenes, the illustrations within this text largely depict rural Scottish life. Though the exact publication date of this particular edition is uncertain, the author's signature dates the book '1911'. Featuring a signed card from the prior owner, loosely inserted.
