1989 American Furniture in the Bybee Collection
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Pleasing Copy, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper
Charles L. Bybee, a banker and philanthropist, alongside his wife Faith (nee Poorman) were lifelong collectors of fine American antiques, who notably restored Texas homes and oversaw the collection of furnishings from the surrounding area. Praised as 'dedicated connoisseurs of early American furniture', the couple built an extensive collection of tables, clocks, beds, and other pieces, detailed extensively in this fascinating work. While the Bybee Collection is by no means the largest collection of American furniture in the United States, it is commonly deemed as being exceptional due to the high quality of the individual pieces, and the incredibly broad stylistic and geographical range of the collection as a whole. This work is copiously illustrated throughout with coloured photographs by Lee Clockman, with fascinating descriptions and studies of the pieces in the collection by Charles L. Venable. Complete with the original unclipped dustwrapper.
