What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, With Dustwrapper

Numerous photographic illustrations, many in colour. French language with Some Personal Recollections of a Visit to 11 East 64th Street, New York, in English, by Sir Francis Watson. Catalogue for an auction of French furniture and objets d'art taking place on the 25 and 26 June 1979 in Monte Carlo. "Art historian and museum curator Sir Francis Watson, 1907–1992, sought never to take himself too seriously and insisted that ‘museums exist to give pleasure’, and treated his directorship of the Wallace Collection as an agreeable sinecure rather than as a heavy burden. "He did much to improve the care of the works of art in his charge, initiating the introduction of air-conditioning throughout the Wallace Collection and establishing specialist workshops for the conservation of furniture and arms and armour in the Royal Collection" - DNB. Syrian born Saudi businessman Akram Ojjeh (1923-1991) was an intermediary in deals between Saudi Arabia and France, particularly arms sales.

Condition

in a cloth binding with original dustwrapper. Externally, smart with mild wear to the extremities and water damage to the rear board. The dustwrapper has slight bumping, with a tide mark stain to the tail of the rear panel, and an area of water damage on the rear panel. Internally the pages are bright and clean. There is a light tide mark to pages 207 onward, which does not affect the text.
