From the library of Sir Hugh Gurney, a British Diplomat, and member of the influential Quaker Gurney banking family. Comprising of 'The Age of Walnut' (1925), 'The Age of Mahogany' (1925), 'The Age of Oak' (1925) and 'The Age of Satinwood' (1928). Percy Thomas MacQuoid was a renowned British theatrical designer and notable collector and connoisseur of English furniture. He authored a large array of articles on English furniture, largely for 'Country Life', and also produced this four volume history of English furniture. Ralph Edwards was the Keeper of the Department of Woodwork at the Victoria and Albert Museum and a notable authority on English antique furniture. Collated, complete. With plates in coloured after Shirley Slocombe and many more illustrations selected and arranged by Macquoid. Furniture discussed to this work includes chests, chairs, beds, tables and desks. A very bright copy of this work.

Condition

In the publisher's full cloth bindings. Externally, very smart. Minor bumping to the extremities. Several marks to boards. Small loss to the head of spine to 'The Age of Satinwood' volume. Front hinge to 'The Age of Mahogony' is strained but firm. Bookplate to the front pastedown, Sir Hugh Gurney. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are very bright, with just the odd spot.
