The first edition of the work. Collated complete with twenty two full page coloured plates of tartan patterns. In this work, clansmen, J.M.P. (James Mcpherson) and F.W.S. (F. W. Schacht) offer a fascinating account of the origin, seat and characteristics of the Scottish clans, with an accompanying plate demonstrating the tartan associated with each.

Condition

In an orange cloth binding. Externally generally smart with slight rubbing to the boards resulting in some loss to the titular gilt on the front board. Slight shelf wear to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. Evidence of bookplate removal to front and rear paste down. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with just some marginal age toning and the odd spot.
