Written by an authority on this subject, Helmut Erich Gernsheim. He was a collector and photographer himself whose own collection was over 33,000 photographs. 

With chapters on Niepce, Fox Talbot, Daguerreotypes, the popularization of photography, 'high art' photography and photomechanical and the printed page.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelfwear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with just the odd spot.
