Fine Binding, Illustrated

The second edition. In a Bickers and Son binding, with the binder's stamp to the verso of front endpaper. With twenty one plates to volume I, twenty plates to volume II and twenty plates to volume II and twelve plates to volume III. Collated, complete. In addition to writing the work, the illustrations are also by Ruskin. 'The Stones of Venice' is a detailed examination of Venetian architecture. Ruskin examines more than eighty churches and looks at the Byzantine, Gothic and Renaissance periods of art and architecture in Venice. Ruskin also looks at the general history of the city. He travelled to Venice twice to research for this series, with the first visit in 1849-50. A beautiful three volume set.

Condition

In uniform full calf bindings. Externally, very smart with shelfwear to the spines, heavier to the raised bands. A few handling marks to boards. Binder's stamp to the verso of front endpaper, Bickers and Son. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spotting, heavier to the first and last few pages.
