The first edition, first impressions of this work in two volumes, with no further impressions stated. 

Bound in full faux straight grain morocco cloth with gilt titles.

Replete with 41 magnificent colour plate illustrations across the two volumes including a frontispiece to each volume, in addition to several monochrome vignette illustrations accompanying the text. Collated complete; note that in Volume I the illustration of the Manipur Painted Bush-Quail listed as appearing on pp. 159 appears on pp. 160, and in Volume II, the illustration of the Ring Necked Pheasant listed as appearing on pp. 25 appears as the frontispiece. 

With the mark of H. Graves to the front first free endpaper of both volumes.

A richly illustrated work of ornithology in two volumes providing information on numerous game birds, including various species of pheasant, fowl, grouse, partridge, and quail. William Robert Ogilvie-Grant was a Scottish ornithologist who was Curator of Birds at the Natural History museum from 1909-1918 and editor of the Bulletin of the British Ornithologists' Club from 1904-1914.

Condition

Full bound in faux straight grain morocco maroon cloth with gilt titles. Externally, smart barring some light rubbing and fading to the spines. Slight bumping to the extremities and heads and tails of the spines. Internally, binding is strained in places. Pages generally lovely, bright, and clean, barring light age toning, heaviest to the endpapers, and the odd spot or light handling mark. Some marginal closed tears and chips to the fore edge of both text blocks, not impacting text.
