Description

First Edition, Folding Maps, Illustrated, Original Source, Pleasing Copy, Uncommon

Uncommon. The first edition of the work. Collated complete with a colour frontispiece, two full page plans and a folding map showing the route traversed by the 15th Hussars. H. C. Wylly was a British army colonel and military historian, who published many works on a variety of military topics. Perhaps most notably, Wylly was responsible for the biography of Sir Joseph Thackwell. Wylly later went on to become the editor of the RUSI Journal and was awarded the Chesney Gold Medal. In this particular work, Wylly edits the journal of Captain Gordon, a British officer during the Napoleonic Wars. The work acts a valuable eye witness account of an often overlooked campaign which took place during the Peninsula War.
