These particular works are set in slightly different times, with Damage set between 1917 and 1918. This novel features an Army Chaplain who receives many injuries during the Great War, with Holliday using this Chaplain's experiences to reflect on the war and its impact. 1934 explores the question of what caused the Second World War. It features a character labelled an 'optimist' and another labelled a 'pessimist', depicting both approaches in the years preceding the Second World War.
