An extensive history of the Victoria Cross and the George Cross, both important medals awarded in Britain. The Victoria Cross is awarded for valour 'in the presence of the enemy', to members of the British Armed Forces, whereas the George Cross is awarded for non-operational gallantry not in the presence of the enemy.
The work lists all of the previous recipients of the awards, detailing their lives and achievements.
Volume I, looking at 1854-1914, illustrated with a colour frontispiece, three colour plates, fifteen colour map, and in-text illustrations.
Volume II, looking at 1914-1918, illustrated with a colour frontispiece, two colour plates, three monochrome plates, thirteen colour maps, and in-text illustrations.
Volume III, looking at 1919-2013, illustrated with a colour frontispiece, three colour plates, one monochrome plate, twelve maps, and in-text illustrations.

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original slipcase. Externally, near fine, with a few minor marks to the boards, with a little bumping to the spines. Slipcase with some minor marks, with some wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Slipcase in a very good indeed condition.
