What Our Customers Say...

Description

Author's Presentation Copy, First Edition, Signed, With Dustwrapper

The first UK edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Inscribed by the author to the title page: "For Stephen with love. A A Gill". From the library of Hungarian-Canadian author Stephen Vizinczey, best known for his 'In Praise of Older Women', and 'An Innocent Millionaire'. His writing was praised by the likes of Graham Greene and Anthony Burgess, describing his fiction as social epics which breathe hope in a corrupt world. This book is a collection of linked essays based on truths and mythologies about America and Americans. Every other small town in America boasts on its 'Welcome' sign that it is the home of something or other - and this is the theme with which A. A. Gill starts. Overall, this volume is A. A. Gill's love letter to America, looking at the America he knew in the 1970s and the place it became in the early 2000s. Adrian Anthony Gill (1954-2016) was a British journalist, critic, and author, best known for his sharp wit, and often controversial style.
