The first edition, first impression of this work, the first edition translated by Sandra Smith. In the original unclipped dustwrapper. Signed by the translator to the title page. 'David Golder' follows the superb eponymous protagonist, who was born into poverty before clawing his way into fabulous wealth. Written by Irene Nemirovsky, a French Ukrainian Jewish author who sadly died in Auschwitz. Her best known work, 'Suite Francaise', was published after her death, after being discovered by her daughters in 1998. Translated by Sandra Smith. With an introduction by Patrick Marnham.
