Jane Gabin draws on correspondence, reviews, and articles to retrace the life and career of such group of American women living in London between 1870 and the end of the Second World War. A group that ranges from Jennie Jerome Churchill (Winston's mother), to Elizabeth Banks, and Genevieve Ward among others, each with their own individuality and unique talents. 

The author's presentation copy, inscribed 'To David Drummond, from whom I bought my first image of Mary Anderson, which I framed and placed on my desk to inspire me to preserve with this research subject! With warm memories of out first and subsequent meeting," dated 2009.
