The first edition of this work. An uncommon book.

Comprising a selection of letters written by Ronald Firbank to his mother from 1920 to 1924. With letters from various places; North Africa, Italy, France, Versailles, Montreux, Fiesole, England, Cuba, Jamaica, and others. His mother was Harriet Jane Garrett.

Reporting the letters that formed part of the Firbank papers offered for sale at Sotheby's by Ronald's nephew, Lt. Col. Thomas J. Firbank on december 12th 1961 (lot 42), which failed to reach its reserve and was bought privately after the sale by New York bookseller, John F. Fleming. Hobson found them and became the owner of both the letters and the copyright.

With an introduction and edited by Anthony Hobson. 

In the original, unclipped dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout with a frontispiece and eight plates, of which six in colour.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally lovely with only minor shelfwear. The dustwrapper is unclipped and excellent with only minor shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Illustrated throughout with a frontispiece and eight plates, of which six in colour.
