The first edition of this work, comprising a thorough history of the first use of tanks in war, at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette the Somme in 1916. The use of tanks in war changed warfare forever, making it possible to withstand bombardments, machine gun fire, barbed fences, as well lead and prepare the way, defending the soldiers. 

Profusely illustrated, with volume two containing six two-sided folding maps showing the progress made by the tanks in each individual sector.

Condition

In the original publisher's illustrated paper covered boards. Externally, lovely with only minor shelfwear. Loosely inserted, two newspaper articles on the use of tanks dated 1939 and 1996. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Volume one with one hundred and six illustrations and forty colour plates, and volume two containing two folders with six two- sided folding maps showing the progress made by the tanks in each individual sector.
