What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Uncommon, With Dustwrapper

The first edition of this volume comprising the narrative of early Polar exploration led by William Speirs Bruce between 1902 and 1904. This log was to have been the first publication of a series of volumes, but Bruce's narrative account never reached publication. Edited with an informative and sensitive introduction by Peter Speak.

William Speirs Bruce was a British naturalist, polar scientist and oceanographer. The Scottish National Antarctic Expedition was a scientifical success, and the author preferred giving financial preference to the scientific volumes rather than this narrative log, which was only published and made available almost a century after.

From the library of Eric Kenneth Prentice Back. Kenn Back was a British meteorologist with the British Antarctic survey for many years.  He spent eight winters in the Antarctic and is a descendent of Captain George Back. In addition, he served as base commander at Halley, Faraday and Rothera stations.  His library collection was built over decades and highlights his love of polar exploration.
