A lovely edition of Great Flower Books 1700-1900 by Sir Sacheverell Sitwell and Wilfrid Blunt, with a foreword by S. Dillon Ripley. This work, which was republished in 1990 to make the book available to collectors, includes the bibliography compiled by W. T. Stearn, Sabine Wilson and Handasyde Buchanan, and edited by Patrick M. Synge.
This wonderfully illustrated work is a guide to colour plate flower books of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, released to celebrate the Golden Age of botanical illustration. It is a must-have for collectors, dealers and auction houses.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition with just a touch of fading to the extremities of the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean except for a faint mark to pages 92 and 93. Dust wrapper is smart, with a little sunning to the rear of the wrap.
