Publishers' Original Binding, With Slipcase
A two volume collection of modern English literature's classic short stories, housed in the original slip case, and selected and edited by Roger Sharrock.
With volume I covering the years between 1900 and 1956, with the stories included demonstrating 'the change in attitudes and aesthetics that occurred during that time, a period often restless and impatient and dominated by two world wars'. Volume II covers the years between 1956 and 1975, the years in which 'foreign writers exerted an increasing influence on short fiction written in English', and including many examples from American and Commonwealth writers.
Arranged chronologically, the first volume begins with M. R. James' 'Casting the Runes', and the second volume closing with Elspeth Davie's 'Concerto'.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with gilt detailing to back strips, and with paper covered slip case. Externally, exceptionally bright. Light rubbing and spotting to head and tail of slip case, with small area of discolouration to tail of back strip. Small area of paper lifting to corner of rear board of slip case. Spotting to slip case interior. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with light spotting to first few leaves of each volume.
