Description

Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

First edition.

With the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper.

This work has selected 174 engraved plates to discuss, extracted from the monumental Description de l'Egypte, a series of publications first appearing in 1890 that aimed to catalog all known aspects of ancient and modern Egypt, as well as its natural history.

The collaborative work was completed by the savants that accompanied Napoleon's expeditionary force to Egypt in 1798.

This study of the plates paint a fascinating portrait of Egypt at the turn of the century, with captions written by experts in their fields from the British Museum, University College London and more.

Edited by Robert Anderson and Ibrahim Fawzy.
