The certificate, confirming that this is a limited edition of 1000 copies, has been signed by the director of the publishing company Scripta Africana. The foreword is signed by the chairman of the publishing company Scripta Africana.

Howard Clement Hillegas (1872-1918) was an American author, newspaper correspondent, and newspaper editor. He traveled to South Africa in 1895 as a correspondent for the New York World to cover the Second Boer War, during which he spent time with the Boer forces. His reports were later compiled into this book. According to The New York Times, this work was suppressed by British authorities.

Originally published by Methuen & Co. in 1900, this facsimile reproduction contains Hillegas's fascinating insights on the Boer War, including the development of the Boers, their military system, and also Boer women. This facsimile reproduction contains fourteen additional photographs which were not available in the original edition, as well as reproductions of the original twenty-four illustrations. Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original full leatherette binding with the original slipcase. Externally in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Slipcase is smart with some small marks to the boards.
