This is American-Canadian author John Irving's sixth novel, set in rural Maine in the first half of the century, it tells of the life of Homer Wells, who grows up under the guidance of Dr. Wilbur Larch, an obstetrician and abortion provider.
It relates his early life at Larch's orphanage in Maine and introduces a young couple Candy Kendall and Wally Worthington, who Homer befriends and later becomes entangled with.
The story was adapted into a 1999 film of the same name starring Toby Maguire as Homer Wells.
Condition
In the original quarter cloth binding. With the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent with only light bumping to the extremities. Dust wrapper is smart, with a few small chips and closed tears, mainly to the spine head. With a couple marks to the wrap and general edge wear. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
