A complete run of Henry Williamson's popular roman fleuve series, 'The Chronicle of Ancient Sunlight'.

The series follows the life of Phillip Maddison, from his birth in the late 1890s, into the early 1950s. An immense tour de force, this series when on to be Williamson's magnum opus.

Williamson loosely based Maddison's life on his own life and experiences. The narrative takes the reader throughout both the First and Second World Wars, from the ending of the reign of Queen Victoria into the changing world of the mid-twentieth post-war society. 

Containing 'The Dark Lantern', 'Donkey Boy', 'Young Phillip Maddison', 'How Dear is Life', 'A Fox Under My Cloak', 'The Golden Virgin', 'Love and the Loveless', 'A Test to Destruction', 'The Innocent Moon', 'It Was the Nightingale', 'The Power of the Dead', 'The Phoenix Generation', 'A Solitary War', 'Lucifer Before Sunrise', and 'The Gale of the World'.

This is a 1984-5 reprint published in a uniform binding.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original dustwrappers, all unclipped expect for 'How Dear is Life', which is price-clipped with a publisher's price sticker to the front flyleaf. Externally, smart. Tape marks to the boards of 'A Fox Under My Cloak'. Label to the recto to the front endpaper and rear paste down of 'A Fox Under My Cloak'. Evidence of a label being formerly adhered to the front endpaper of 'Love and the Loveless', with a little loss. Dustwrapper spines are a little sunned. Light edgewear to the wraps. Label to the spine of 'The Golden Virgin'. Tidemark to the head of the dustwrapper for 'Young Phillip Maddison', heavier to the reverse, and to the tail of the wrapper for 'A Solitary War'. Prior owner's label to the front paste down of 'Young Phillip Maddison'. Label about Brian Dolan to the recto to the front endpaper 'Donkey Boy', 'How Dear is Life', and 'A Test to Destruction' Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just a couple of light scattered spots.
