Description
Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce, With Dustwrapper
A lovely copy of this translation of A Gift to Those Who Contemplate the Wonders of Cities and the Marvels of Travelling, commonly known as the Rihla. Translated by Hamilton Alexander Rosskeen Gibb from an early French translation, this volume contains selections from Ibn Battuta's famous account of his travels. A scarce work, with eight illustrations, collated and complete. Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Battutah, commonly known as Ibn Battuta, was an explorer who travelled more than any other explorer in pre-modern history. Although scholars continue to question whether all of the Rihla is based on the personal experiences of Battuta, the Rihla provides an important account of much of the fourteenth century world, and the the varied instances of culture shock Battuta experienced. Found in the unclipped dust wrapper.
