Description

First Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

The scarce first UK edition. In the original full cloth binding with the publisher's unclipped dust wrapper. A fascinating work regarding the social theory and history of magic. In, 'Stolen Lightning', O'Keefe explains how magic derives from religion and takes it symbols from the same source. In developing a unified theory of magic, he argues that we should see it as a form of symbolism that helps man think, speak and act. Daniel O'Keefe was an American writer and editor of Reader's Digest for more than thirty years. He received his doctorate in sociology and philosophy from the New School for Social Research, New York. In popular culture he is best known as the creator of Festivus, a secular holiday celebrated on the 23rd of December which was popularised by the sitcom, 'Seinfeld'. The half title page is present.
