Following a young chimney sweep who falls into a river after being chased out of an upper-class girl's house. He appears to drown and is transformed into a "water-baby" and begins a moral education. Written by Charles Kingsley, an English broad church priest, professor, social reformer, historian, novelist, and poet who was associated with Christian socialism. Illustrated by Jessie Willcox Smith, an American illustrator of the Golden Age of American Illustration.

In the original green cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
