What Our Customers Say...

Description

Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

A facsimile of the text of the 1873 edition published by Edmonston and Douglas.

In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper.

Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece and monochrome vignettes, and ten monochrome plates. Collated complete.

This historical work was edited with notes and an introduction by Joseph Anderson. The 'Orkneyinga Saga' is a 14th century narrative history, of which this is a translated version, and covers the history of the Orkney and Shetland islands and the Earls of Orkney, starting with the conquest of the Isles of Harald Har-Fagri. The work's accuracy has been questioned by recent scholars, who consider some of the earlier sections to be more fictional that reality.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally lovely. The wrap is very smart with marks. Internally firmly bound with clean and bright pages.
