The first edition of this work. In the original publisher’s unclipped dustwrapper. Author’s presentation copy, signed by the author to the title page, ‘Tom, Wise friend, wise publisher, wise man. With gratitude and affection, Bernard’. Tom Maschler’s bookplate to the front pastedown. Maschler is a publisher who worked for Jonathan Cape, who discovered and published authors including Ian McEwan and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. An interesting travel work, discussing the Grand Tour, and the twelve festivals that the author went to from May to November 1980. Written by Bernard Levin, an English journalist, typically considered to be the most famous journalist of his day.

Condition

In the original publisher’s cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, fine, with a couple of light marks to the rear board. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Dustwrapper with some sunning to the spine and extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Prior owner’s inscription to the title page.
