Description

With Dustwrapper

The Brontë sisters were all prominent literary figures: first publishing under their male pseudonyms, Currer, Ellis and Acton, they produced some of the most important works of nineteenth century fiction, including 'Jane Eyre' and 'Wuthering Heights', as well as poetry. Charlotte Brontë (1816-1855) penned the novel 'Jane Eyre' as well as four other, including 'Emma', which was incomplete. The two stories contained in this volume, 'The Secret' and 'Lily Hart', were written as an epic by the Brontë children. The manuscript from which they are transcribed were lost from 1915 until they were presented to the University of Missouri in 1975, having been rediscovered among the possessions of Evelyn Symington, the wife of U.S. Senator Stuart Symington.

Edited by William Holtz, English Professor of the University of Missouri-Columbia.
