First published in French as Autour du Pole Sud: Expedition du 'Pourquoi-Pas?' in 1910 and in English as The Voyage of the Why Not in the Antarctic in 1911 by Hodder and Stoughton and this is a facsimile of that English edition. 

This reprint edition has a new foreword by Paul-Emile Victor.  

Jean-Baptiste Charcot was a French scientist, medical doctor and polar scientist. The Pourquoi-pas was the most modern and comfortable polar vessel of its time and Charcot built it immediately after returning from his first polar expedition. This volume narrates the voyage of this vessel in 1908-1910 with illustrations throughout. 

With fifty two plate illustrations. In the original unclipped dustwrapper.
Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. In the original unclipped dustwrapper which is smart. There is some fading to the spine and some marks to the wraps.
