This reprint edition has a new foreword by Paul-Emile Victor.
Jean-Baptiste Charcot was a French scientist, medical doctor and polar scientist. The Pourquoi-pas was the most modern and comfortable polar vessel of its time and Charcot built it immediately after returning from his first polar expedition. This volume narrates the voyage of this vessel in 1908-1910 with illustrations throughout.
