Corbett was frequently called upon by the Government of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh to hunt the man-eating tigers and leopards that were attacking people in the nearby villages.
These stories, originating from various other publications, were selected by Jim Corbett's editor, R. E. Hawkins. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Bombay Natural History Society.
