This is a collection of mythopoeic stories set in the 'Lord of the Rings' universe by J. R. R. Tolkien, edited and published posthumously by his son Christopher Tolkien. This book tells the origin story of Middle-Earth, and tells in detail what will later become a fable that characters tell in his beloved trilogy.
With Tolkien being an academic in philology, the work shows the influence of many sources, including the Finnish epic 'Kalevala', Greek mythology, the lost island of Atlantis and the Olympian gods.
