Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece and numerous monochrome vignettes designed by Sir John Gilbert and engraved by the Brothers Danziel.
This work features the complete collection of poetical works by the noted Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Longfellow wrote many lyric poems known for their musicality, and often presenting stories of mythology and legend. He became the most popular American poet of his day and had success overseas. He has been criticized by some, however, for imitating European styles and writing specifically for the masses.
Condition
Bound in full morocco. Externally very smart with fading to the spine and extremities of the boards and slight rubbing to the head, tail and raised bands to the spine and to the extremities of the boards and joints. Closed tear to the front hinge. Internally firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages with the odd spot. Old ink inscription dated 1898 to the front blank.
