Nine volumes in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Loosely inserted to volume I is a letter from the RSPB to the previous owner about these books, dated 1977. Loosely inserted to volume IV is an errata slip. All volumes contain numerous illustrations and diagrams in the text. 104 colour plates and 3 monochrome plates to volume I. 95 colour plates and 1 monochrome plate to volume II. 104 colour plates to volume III. 98 colour plates to volume IV. 84 colour plates to volume V. 31 colour plates to volume VI. 29 colour plates to volume VII. 61 colour plates to volume VIII. 34 colour plates to volume IX. Collated, complete. The Limited Ornithologists Edition, complete and unabridged, prepared especially for RSPB members and limited to 5000 copies, of volumes I to IX of this handbook to birds of the western portion of the Palearctic zoogeographical region. The main editor for the first few volumes was Stanley Cramp. Volume I: Ostrich to Ducks (1977); Volume II: Hawks to Buzzards (1980); Volume III: Waders to Gulls (1983); Volume IV: Terns to Woodpeckers (1985); Volume V: Tyrant Flycatchers to Thrushes (1988); Volume VI: Warblers (1992); Volume VII: Flycatchers to Shrikes (1993); Volume VIII: Crows to Finches (1994); Volume IX: Buntings and New World Warblers (1994).

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in lovely condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Dust wrappers are sunned to the spines and extremities, with very light shelf wear to the upper extremities.
