In the original price clipped dustwrapper. The first edition of the work. Profusely illustrated throughout with many full page and monochrome plates and vignettes. With a loosely inserted receipt from the antique shop of the author 'Harriet Wynter Antiques & Works of Art' from 1975, selling the book for £12.50 to one 'H. C. Varne Esq'. Harriet Wynter, who co-wrote this work with Anthony Turner specialises on the sale of scientific illustrations. Many of the photographs in the work come from her shop. The fascinating work details the vast array of equipment used in navigation, astronomy, surveying, optics and horology.

Condition

In a cream cloth binding in the original price clipped dustwrapper. Externally in excellent condition with just some very slight shelf wear to the head and tail of the spine. Loosely inserted receipt to front endpapers. Dustwrapper is price clipped. Dustwrapper is in excellent condition with just some slight shelf wear to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. Marginal age toning to the extremities of the reverse of the wrap. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean.
