An unusual work adapted from a short story published by the author in the previous year, in this novel, an entire city and its residents travel slowly across an alien planet on railway tracks, with it being left unclear to the reader whether this planet is actually Earth.
In 1974 The Inverted World was the winner of a British Science Fiction Association award, and in 1975 it was nominated for the Hugo Award.

In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with paper covered boards. In the publisher's original price clipped dust wrapper. Bumping to back strip head and tail, and board perimeters. Edge wear to dust wrapper back strip head and tail. Small loss to head of rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
