This is the First Session of hearings regarding the causes and aftermath of the Wounded Knee Takeover. The Wounded Knee Takeover began in February 1973 when around 200 Oglala Lakota and followers of the American Indian Movement seized and occupied the town of Wounded Knee, South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. This work was published for the use of the Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs at the Unites States Senate, the ninety-third congress. This work comprises of scripts from the hearings as well as statements from numerous individuals including representatives for Wounded Knee residents, the U.S Senator for South Dakota, individuals from the Sioux tribe as well as other government officials. There is a record of communications and further statements. A primary source for this turbulent historical event.

Condition

In original paper wraps. Externally, sound with damp staining to the rear wrap at the joint. Rear wrap is detaching due to water damage. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spine has faded. A few spots to wraps. Institutional library stamp to front wrap and shelf number written. Pencil notes to title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout.
