'Slay Ride' by Dick Francis follows David Cleveland, who is the Jockey Club chief investigator, as he goes to Norway to investigate a racecourse appeal. A British jockey seems to have disappeared with the day's takings from the turnstiles, and it is Cleveland's responsibility to see if he can track him down.

Dick Francis (1920-2010), or Richard Stanley Francis, was a British steeplechase jockey and crime writer. All of his novels focused upon horse racing in England, usually with a main character who happens to be a jockey. Francis was the jockey to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 1956, almost winning the Grand National.
